Job description

Houlihan are recruiting for an Assistant/Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join an experienced commercial team.

The successful applicant will be integrated within a well-established commercial team enabling opportunity to develop a detailed understanding of Groundworks within the Construction Industry.

Employees within the company are members of the RICS/CIOB and support can be provided to assist in further career development.

Ideally applicants will have or be working towards a construction related qualification and will be employed on a full time basis with consideration on leave for education and/or training purposes.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the project QS with commercial administration and management on a number of live projects or projects at pre- construction phase.
  • Competent in understanding technical drawings and basic measurement.
  • Assist QS department in the preparation of final accounts.
  • Assist in the control of variation accounts and management of invoices/payments received.
  • Preparation of documentation to assist both the estimating and surveying teams for the preparation of tender documentation and valuations.
  • Assisting and liaising with the buyers on materials procurement.
  • To support the QS in the management of day to day cost control, monitoring and reporting.
  • Consideration for value engineering.
  • Develop an understanding of contract law, specification and pricing.
  • Assist the QS with subcontractor selection and ensure the chosen subcontractor has the appropriate order and information to carry out their works.
  • Regular site attendance to assist the construction and surveying teams.
  • To act in a professional manner in this client facing role.

  • Good at developing relationships
  • Flexible – office and site based therefore the ability to travel is essential
  • Excellent level of numeracy and literacy skills
  • Some previous experience/education within the Construction Industry
  • IT skills including Microsoft packages – Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc.
  • Self – motivated/enthusiastic
  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Resilient within a fast-paced industry with ever increasing Client demands
