Linden Wates purchased the site from previous owner Lands Improvement Holdings in August 2013 with the benefit of a hybrid planning permission granted by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in December 2012.
The permission comprises detailed consent for the means of access to the site including a main spine road to serve the development alongside outline consent – effectively, establishing the principle – of building 182 new homes in the grounds of The Frythe. This permission also confirmed that The Frythe building itself could be converted into 14 new apartments. Importantly, the permissions granted at this time also established a series of parameter plans for the site.
